Free at Last
I lived a life behind these bars
I had locked myself in
I sat powerless within my cell of shame
Freedom’s keys just out of reach
My heart ached to start again
I couldn’t help but wonder then
How long I’d have to stay
But help was on its way
The bolted door burst open wide
Light flooded inside
You tore the bars away
What else can I say?
The only thing this caged bird knew
Was captivity but you brought liberty
Fixed my broken wing
Gave me freedom’s song to sing
My crumpled cage is left behind
I am no longer confined
I spread my wings and start to fly
Into the infinite sky
Free at last
Free at last
Free at last
Thank God I’m free at last
The bolted door burst open wide
Light flooded inside
You tore the bars away
Now all I can say is
Free at last
Free at last
Free at last
Thank God I’m free at last
Freedom is a sea breeze on my face
Freedom is standing on a cliff edge
Freedom is on the horizon
Freedom is the open space to fly
Freedom is the cool rain in the summer
Freedom is the hopeful winter sun
Freedom is the freshly painted morning
Freedom is the ancient starry sky
Freedom is a brand new adventure
Freedom is the promise the future holds
Freedom is the past forgotten
Freedom is a death I didn’t have to die
