I Really Like Star Wars
I really like Star Wars.
In fact, it’s a surprise I haven’t mentioned it before now.
It’s probably not healthy.

It’s probably not healthy.
It’s easy to be cynical.
I have just spent a couple of minutes briefly casting my eye over a few of my previous blogs. And now I’m slightly worried that you might think I’m just a grumpy old man with a distaste for running, Mother’s day cards and worship music.
Last week I went to a Worship Central event in Southampton.
On my way home, I had a most interesting discussion about said event with my mortal enemy good friend Tom Pollard. One phrase that he used struck me.
Last Sunday was Mother’s Day.
If that is news to you, I suggest a hasty trip to the florist might be in order. Or you might get away with giving your mum a card this Sunday and then acting surprised when she tells you it was actually last week.
I love me a good walk. (Careful when you read that)
Admitting this may make me sound 20 or 30 years older than I actually am, but I make no apologies for unashamedly enthusing over the simple joys of walking. Perhaps it comes from growing up in Somerset, or from being an only child and enjoying my own company. Alternatively, it could be my natural kinship with nature. Or maybe I’m just insufferably boring.
The following is a list of songs that have recently been stuck in my head. Some have perfectly reasonable explanations. Others, I have no idea about.
Some, I would happily choose to listen to. Some, I am less proud of.
The feeling of getting a song stuck in your head is a pretty common one.
It happens in various ways. Maybe your irritating housemate was playing Gangnam Style on repeat earlier and now you can’t sleep because your brain is currently doing the same. Or you went to a gig the other day and the catchiest songs ran around your head for the entire journey home. Or throughout the Christmas period your brain randomly belted out “The power of looooove! Sent from aboooove!” because of that advert with the snowman that, let’s be honest, probably stole a hat and scarf from John Lewis.
This week saw Barack Obama’s second inauguration as President of the United States of America. I remember his first one quite clearly. I was in my first year of uni and my housemate Tom and I watched it in his room, on his computer.
I also seem to remember his room was a terrible mess. It always was.
Today is Valentine’s Day.
You might have noticed because all of your Facebook friends decided to inform you of the fact. Just in case that one poor, calendar-less soul out there had forgotten.
Over the past year-and-a-bit I’ve learned a lot about creativity. One of these things is what to do when you’re not feeling creative, or you’ve just run out of ideas.
There is a romantic myth that you need to be in the right zone to be creative – that you should wait for inspiration.
I don’t believe it.
